Heartbroken.

We lost Velveteen today.

Mommy was with him at the end.

He would have been ten years old in October.

I am devastated.

Heartbroken.

There is so much that I could say about how much he meant to me, my sister, and my mom. Us girls and our rabbit.

Perhaps in time I'll say more.

Goodbye, you darling bunny. When you left us, I hope you were hopping down the porch steps at our old house in Okemos, heading out to play in the backyard hosta bed and munch on your favorite crunchy fall leaves.

I was thinking about you this morning, as I scooped up the little bunny off the side of the road.

I found a few more little marks on him, and I am not sure what to do. My vet doesn't deal with 'wild' animals, and there is a place I can take him and sign him over and they will treat/rehabiltate him...but they said rabbits get stressed easily, and the move could overwhelm his system.

I just want to make sure he is ok, you know? If he is wild, I want him to be 100% before I put him back in the wild, otherwise a hawk or owl will more easily get him. And believe me, we have those birds.

I am going to try to heal his cuts myself with neosporin and see how he does. He ate all the lettuce, so I think that is a good sign. I got him food and hay today, and he has that too.

Sweet baby bunny!

Hi,

thanks for responding. My email is goettin@gmail.com
:)

The wildlife rehab place suggested the neosporin, and I too wondered if the rabbit cleaned himself if it would be ok. I did put it on him already, and I am 100% sure he was hit, not clipped. There is a whole side of him that has road rash, right near the tiny spot (about the size of my pinky) that lost all the fur completely. He has a little gash on his head.

I am scared to take him in, the place got two reviews, one glowing and the other was terrible. However, I will follow your advice and take him.

He likes lettuce - he has eaten 2 handfuls already. :)
